For a number of years Nova Scotia has been thinking about introducing wild turkey into the Province.Just heard recently that this will not be done.At this time I am not sure why.Hopefully I will find out the reason why soon, either by word of mouth or reading something in the paper.

A few years ago I rememder seeing some turkeys sitting in a tree alongside a road. These turkeys must have been someones or perhaps an illegal release.

Its too bad the Province has decided against an introduction of wild turkey as they would have been another game bird to hunt.

Not sure about your weather but...I've seen turkeys that suffocated  in a fair freezing rain. They would have to release a BUNCH to make a viable population for hunting 10-30years down the road. We are finally getting a good crop in Michigan and licenses are getting easier to get.

Too bad about the turks.  The began releasing them 15 years ago and we have had a huntable population for 10 years about.  The only problem is almost all live on private land and acess can be a problem.

Too bad there's no green light.
I'll never forget the first time I saw a turkey here in Wisconsin. I was 16 years old and walking Kettle Moraine in Waukesha county looking for deer with my bow. I walked up on half a dozen turkeys crossing the fire lane I was going down. We weren't  too far from the highway and I thought maybe they fell off a truck. I had never even heard of turkeys in WI..

That was about 17 years ago. Nowdays they have a hunting season and you have to worry about hitting one while driving country roads.

Have been on a Nova Scotia hunting wesite doing some reading. It appears the Wild Turkey Federation thought turkeys would make it in certain parts of Nova Scotia.Probably the Valley were most of the good farm land in the Province is located. Many people were for it but it seems the farmers had concerns about crop distruction and sickness being brought in with the introduction and getting into thier tame turkeys and chickens. Also there were nature people who were against the introduction.

From what I could understand there are some escaped tame turkeys living the wild life in the Valley. These are not real wild turkeys but just a domesticated spices that have gone wild.

As Dennis said about his area most of the turkeys if introduced would be on private land. For the most part here that is no problem unless it is cultivated land.In this case it would be farm land and could cause trouble for farmers.

Nice story, oldthompson.I remember seeing my first coyote in Nova Scotia. Can also remember seeing my Dad come home after seeing his first coyote. He told me that he thought he would never see the time when he would see a coyote in Nova Scotia.

When I was a boy I can remember talking to some old fellows who told me about the first time their Fathers ever saw a deer in Nova Scotia.
